What is HIIT?
HIIT is an acronym for High Intensity Interval Training. HIIT is a form of interval training that combines short periods of intense anaerobic exercises with less intense recovery periods. The duration of HIIT varies depending on the intensity of the session, but usually lasts around 30-40 minutes. At AmpUP, our HIIT sessions consists of a five minute warm, numerous high-intensity exercises, medium-intensity exercises, then a five minute cool down period.
High Intensity Interval Training keeps your heart rate up and helps burn more fat in less time. These types of workouts increase your need for oxygen during the exercise and creates an oxygen shortage. This shortage leads your body to ask for more oxygen during recovery. This process is referred to excess post-exercise oxygen consumption and is the reason why HIIT will help burn more fat and consume more calories than traditional aerobic workouts.
